About

Who are you?
My name's Chris and I was born and raised in Northern California, living in Freedom until moving to Morgan Hill at age 6. I grew up in a very Christian home. My parents are Christians, I went to a Christian school (kindergarten, elementary, middle and high schools as well as college at Biola University) and attended church regularly. With that background, you may understand why I felt like I understood Christianity.

"This blog is, among other things, a chance for me to look into Christianity and to look at things through Christianity."

However, as I grow and learn, I realize that there is so much more to Christianity than I realize, and for that I am thankful. People will tell you that I'm pretty smart, and that leads me to get bored with things rather quickly. I know, I know. Ruth Burke would just say "Only boring people get bored." But that's why I'll move on to something else when I get bored. What I've found is that the more that I look into Christianity, the more there is to look into. This blog is, among other things, a chance for me to look into Christianity and to look at things through Christianity.

Where did the name "Behind the Mask" come from?
Face it, we all wear them. I'm not talking about a literal "I've got a monkey face" mask. I'm talking about the masks and facades that we all throw on. Maybe someone you don't really like walked in the room, but you didn't want to hurt their feelings by being mean. So you throw on a smile and act like their friend. Mask. Or maybe you act one way when you're out at practice with the guys, but when you're home with your family, you're somebody else entirely. Mask. I'm one of the lucky sort who had grown so close to his mask that he forgot he was wearing one.

"Honesty and transparency aren't easy to write, so they shouldn't be easy to read either."

This blog originally started as my way to respond to a challenge. A friend of mine challenged me to face myself, to take off my mask. Not all of the posts I make will be blog posts. Not all of the blog posts I make will be written while I have intentionally taken off my mask. When you click the Label "Behind the Mask", you'll find all the blogs that show a little bit of what's going on behind my mask. These posts should be a little bit more personal. They might be a little bit uncomfortable. If it is, I'm glad. Honesty and transparency aren't easy to write, so they shouldn't be easy to read either.
